Not that I dislike Lara in any way, but I find this to be a bit off. But lists like these are silly to begin with. We all differ in taste =)

Lara Croft is definitely iconic. She reached that status where even people who don't play games recognise her name (even if they never watched the films either). But more iconic than Mario and Sonic? Not sure...
(Also, I love how Shadowheart is there among far older characters haha)
Not saying they're not iconic, but Lara is not first in that regard, and Hitman, Sackboy and Shadowheart shouldn't even be in the top 10.
I don't even understand how anyone can come to the conclusion that its anyone other than Mario.
He's the only character that I can think of that has been making consistent (and basically unchanged) appearances in every generation of gaming since I have been alive. According to wikipedia he's been in 200+ games since the 1981 Donkey Kong.
Yeah this list is an oddity and I have no idea how the 4000-ish, worldwide "pollers" got to these conclusions.
SHadowheart, one I just heard of because of this "poll" is the 10th most iconic gaming character of all time? The game just released for fuck's sake =D Damn fine first impression I guess xD
Pikachu, Pac-man and even Mega Man should be on top with Mario and Sonic.
Objectively speaking Mario should be on top with ease. He has one, and soon two, fucking theme parks even. Pikachu?

Apparently it's from a "world wide poll" of some (mere) 4000 people.
BAFTA is from Brittain so maybe the the pollers aren't that internatuonal after all and why Brittish made characters, like Lara, are up there.
So it's biased and shoumd not be taken very seriously.
Damn it, we need a poll here in Mexico, Marcus got tons of fans in my country.
