Shoutouts to the humble Dragoon for being one of the consistently most interesting and cool class fantasies in JRPGs but somehow being completely useless hotdog water in like 85% of the Final Fantasy games they have existed in. Gotta be one of my favorite genders.

Also shoutouts to Legend of Mana for having Dragoons be knights sworn under a dragon instead of just knights trained to kill dragons. This is one of the only games I can think of that did this, but also exposure to it as a kid did immense damage to my neural pathways, and I deeply yearn for another game with Bizarre Dragon Politics you're stuck in the middle of where you're forced to pledge an oath of immortal fealty to a godlike being for threat of otherwise forfeiting your immortal soul to the infernos of hell for all eternity. Professional dragon-killer knights are cool and all, but I want more of whatever the fuck THAT game was on.

I think the swerve in flavor and the synergy of 'we kill dragons like no other, we're SO good at it' turning into 'actually we use a bit of their power to fight for justice now, dragons are chill' is kinda neat, but also I sorta wish they went harder on like... what the source of your power is after Heavensward. Like, it's implicitly the eye of Hraesvelgr that you kept (at least I think you keep it?) but imagine if the 60-70 questline was you doing some kind of ancient dragon-human bonding ritual from before the war, or something, instead of just helping some baby dragon find its mom. I 'unno.
