Congratulations, Anon, you have stumped me completely. I have been mulling on this for hours and I still haven't come down on a good answer.
So both! Both. Both have their virtues, I love pancakes in so many ways, but am equally delighted by cupcakes.
But I will say I have had pancakes more recently. The breakfast diner around the corner is just perfect, and last time they had blackberry pancakes. I achieved some small semblance of enlightenment.
