i've decided i don't believe in persistent consciousness, partly for philosophical reasons but mostly because it turns the teleporter problem into a complete non-issue
q: if you get teleported by your body being destroyed and recreated, are you dead
a: no, you're over there
q: but the you who was here doesn't exist anymore
a: yeah, because you're over there
honestly, after that time we died, we got a lot less hung up on whether things technically kill us or not
the me who existed five seconds ago is dead. I haven't moved or anything, I've just undergone an infinitesimal amount of decay and growth
that's basically the conclusion I came to like fifteen years ago when I was really depressed and overly absorbed with existential questions 😆
for practical purposes tho I'm still not getting in the teleporter it seems spooky
