Nostalgic echoes of places we've been. A streetcorner in Rochester we dreamed of for a decade before crossing again. A muddy version of the Adirondacks. A liminal space where the southern stretches of the pine barrens brush up against Jersey's shores. A blend of the shores of the St. Croix, the Thousand Islands of the St. Lawrence, and Superior's North Shore. Houses and apartments we miss, mazes of malls long since abandoned, homes that were never homes but are home.
Often with no story or direction attached, just getting lost of the feelings of these places, detached from the negative memories of childhood and abuse, or the pain of loss and moving on. Those are best.
Bonus round! from Stephen King's Nightmares and Dreamscapes: I think as much as I hate to admit it, 'Crouch End' still takes it. 'Night Flier', 'The End of the Whole Mess', 'Dolan's Cadillac' and 'Umbrey's Last Case' all get honorable mentions.
