Can't help but feel like House of Leaves loses some of its effect when you have ADHD.
Yeah yeah, sudden barely related digressions, enormous asides for context that doesn't actually clarify anything, stream of consciousness at random, nested narratives, tangents on tangents, non-linear chronology, etc... That's just how I tell Spouse about my day, your labyrinthine narrative has no power here.
Danielewski, presumably: "Oops, I went into a chapter-long digression on the minotaur as a misunderstood sadboy, hope the narrative is not too hard for you to follow
"
Me, broken-brained: "you fool, I was already thinking of Borges' "La Casa de Asterion" as soon as Navidson starts exploring the house. I'm not following your train of thought, you're following mine"
Suddenly realizing the flipside of this, which is that that's probably WHY the novel is compelling to me, in a way I doubt it is to neurotypical people. Like, in a "hahaha, I do that!" kinda way.
