The guy who holds the record for the highest helicopter flight (~41,000ft) also holds the record for the highest/longest helicopter autorotation (basically the rotorcraft equivalent of gliding, except harder to do)
He went to throttle down the engine after reaching altitude, but because it was ~-60°C out the engine flamed out and refused to restart, so he had to autorotate the whole way down.
