Due to the unusually windy conditions last night, the wildfire to the north of us threw embers some 10km, including over a ~2km wide stretch of water, to start several new fires. The fire crews in our district are already stretched to breaking dealing with several severe fires, and to top it all off we've got weather conducive to lightning storms predicted for the next ~48 hours. And this is pretty much the same situation throughout interior BC. What a complete mess. I feel a bit like the civilians in the Glittering Caves during the battle of Helm's Deep, if you'll forgive the nerdery.

Anyway, if you live anywhere in the area, it's go-bag packing time.

Not at all! I'm in the south central interior, in the Okanagan. The Lower Mainland should be alright as it's much wetter than the interior. Though I haven't kept up with conditions there this year, so if it's been an especially dry one it can't hurt to pack something, right? Especially if you're prone to worry(hi, that's me :D), it's an easy bit of piece of mind when it feels like there's nothing one can do.

I don't know that I'm expecting the metro area to burn but the fires up near whistler and squamish had me concerned. We haven't had much smoke this year at all and I really hope it stays clean as long as it can.
