in reply to @nora's post:

As I wrote in my post, I black-box exercised the login page under both JAWS and orca - so to a better standard than I generally would in a UX lab, because we don't use any of the free software screen-readers - and while it needs some improvements it rates highly. It is not unusable by any metric. It is not advocacy that people are complaining about, it is the use of accessibility as a bludgeon, particularly from a position of ignorance.

I think thinking about it as a dichotomy between "people being mean about accessibility" and "accessibility advocates" isn't really accurate. As someone who wrote a post complaining about how people are demanding a specific performance of accessibility, I do care a lot about actually supporting disabled people. I think most people do. The issue is people who generally agree on that saying "don't be extremely rude about it".

i guess my originating feeling is that i already care about alt text and yet i am reaching the point where the phrase "alt text" puts a bad taste in my mouth and that is a sign that something has gone terribly awry. like if i feel this way then how are indifferent bystanders going to feel

i don't know what's up with the login page. i found the support request and the reporter is kind of sneering on it and again i don't see how that helps anything. i'm so tired of the condescending attitude over stuff that is invisible to the people making it man

apparently the login page thing is being fixed and i just missed it in the recent report about it, which is good news! i just saw your post with the joke about accessibility needs and like, if that shit bugs you so much it seems like it would be better just to mute or block the users who do it instead of mocking them, and then vaguepost about the tendency, like you did later. but it's your blog, you can do whatever you want with it

i often have the same problem, but the way you did it felt trivializing and made me feel bad. you can post whatever you want, but i hate seeing people fight about this kind of thing

that happens! and i'm not mad at you (or anyone else), i just am stressing out seeing fighting on the timeline and trying to lower the temperature. thanks for taking me in good faith on this.
