you know I'd sorta vaguely had the idea "oh yeah, there's really been some good Yuri Hime covers lately, huh?" rattling in the back of my mind but I'd never actually really looked that closely and it turns out that no, they've actually been insanely good ever since 2011, wherein they abandoned the usual manga magazine style focused around a single specific comic (with by a ton of text telling you everything inside!), in favour of getting original art for every single issue, with a dramatically different cover style every year. just a gorgeous sampling of great graphic design. here's some of my favourites from skimming through a gallery of them but honestly there's a lot more worth seeing. dang!!!

Shout-out to the story by Namori that took place over the course of like a year of covers. It's kind of a weird angsty-melodrama thing I'm not hugely interested in as a story but as a specific kind of artistic accomplishment it's fascinating. As this was done over the course of 2012 it's right near the start of this change in direction.

OHHHHHHHHH

was super excited to realize that my Japanese is now exactly good enough to read these covers. I love this premise so much! really fun and dramatic for a series of covers.
