You stand at the edge of the cliff, over the placid lake, your friend sitting on her hindlegs, giving you a calming smile.
"Ready?" She asks, the morning sun glinting off her horns.
The world seems more colorful and beautiful then it ever has. You don't know if it's your newly changed eyes - with their shining golden flecks and vertically slit pupils - or if, perhaps, the sheer joy you've felt since your changes, finally letting you see it's true beauty.
You crouch forward, placing your weight on your forepaws as you ready to take off. You hold out your wings, and feel the wind blow across them. Your tail flicks in satisfaction. It feels wonderful. Like you're finally whole.
"Just remember what I told you: if you feel yourself stalling, dive. Don't try and power through it. And if you lose control and have to hit the water, try not to belly flop."
You nod and take a deep breath. With a powerful leap, you launch into the air.
It feels wonderful. The wind across your scales, the feeling of freedom. The lake is beautiful from here. With a few powerful flaps, you climb higher and higher, being careful not to slow down too much as you gain height. You tilt your wings a little, and gently roll to the left, turning your head to watch your friend on the clifftop, beaming with pride.
It's the most beautiful feeling you've ever felt. Tears stream down your scales.
Your chest swells with a dragon's vaunted pride, and you unleash a roar of joy that echoes across the lake.
