You know, the more autobiographical elements we use writing a story means the greater risk of backsplash and a new headmate forming from the process, but "version of ourselves who detransitioned after our ex-fiancé broke our heart and ended up developing serious drug problems as a result of that" is not an existence we would wish upon anyone. Sometimes we can shut out a headmate before they even form, and on this one especially we are going to exceptional length to make sure it doesn't happen.

Despite how Bleak that sounds, it ends up a very hopeful story about connections and picking up after a setback.

Also the main character is a rat because while I was out on the walk that largely ended up as part of the story, I saw a poor mangy Rat by the local gas station, who didn't even run when I jumped at him to Spook him off. It was pretty big, but the best it could do was slowly hobble. I felt a lot like that rat when I started writing the story, so it stuck.
