i feel like i see endless videos and posts from people with super slick modded game boys or those retro emulator handhelds they make five thousand new models of every year now with names like the RXGB32s

but i hardly ever see people talk about actually playing them. like "oh it's so good to get back into wario land i have a new appreciation for its mechanics and level design" no it's just "THIS ONE HAS BETTER SCREEN. BUTTONS FEEL SLIGHTLY BETTER. CONSUME MORE HARDWARE"

I see that a lot from collectors in general - I always see lots of pristine glass cabinets filled with neatly arranged consoles and games, and all I can think of is "dang those games look unused, when did you last play them?"

yeah it sucks that the entire community around those things is extremely reddit-brained lmao. i got one a while back and it's been extremely nice playing stuff like gran turismo 2 or v-rally 2 on long flights tho. wild what you can do if you actually play the dang thing instead of constantly posting about it .

I feel incredibly the same way about mechanical keyboard enthusiasts. Why on earth would I want to chase a trendy layout or sound? I just want a consistent layout and a good force/actuation curve for my typing/gaming preferences. It's for daily use. I don't want 20 of them with a bunch of differences!
