fleshing out some of my sci-fi characters and realising Gallagher, Marshall & Cali make more sense as a polycule than as a crew. Like yeah they run a scout and surveying business but that's not what would keep them together, they've been through a lot together (being built by a military as unmanned aerospace craft and then doing some wacky legal stuff to buy themselves) and wanna stay together, so having their own ship and hiring a crew to run it for them is just the most practical option available for them (can't exactly just buy a house and settle down when you're all 6m tall cyborgs who need constant maintenance)
so basically they're the board of their LLC, which owns the ship and their bodies, and also a commited throuple, so pillow talk can potentially be a board meeting (would need to be a very large pillow)
the wacky technicalities of being an AI, and unmanned weapon, and a spacecraft in a legal system that assumes these are all different things and treating your brain and body as separate entities is fine
