I've heard quite a number of people say that they can't take progesterone because it makes them incredibly depressed or suicidal, and I was wondering if anyone might have stuff to share on that subject? I've been on it for like 3+ years now, but I've been having these cycles of supremely bad depression around the same time of the month since my orchi in july, and I'm worried it's something due to the hormonal changes?

If you've got any input, leave a comment or an ask. I'm just trying to sort out why every 30 days I am extremely not in a good way for about 4 of them.

Edit: yes I am aware and have tracked my periods, but I'm worried the orchi made a drastic difference

I was gonna say "uhhh that sounds like a period" and it seems like that's the case. I know that afab folx can make those symptoms go away/lessen if they take hormonal birth control, which tweaks the levels of things, so...maybe you should try that? Tweaking your hormone levels?

You said this started after your orchi, so your hormonal profile is definitely different now, so having to tweak the amounts/timing of your HRT sounds like a natural consequence of that. Even for afab folx, those levels aren't the same their entire life. Your endo would be able to help you out.

Sounds like a period cycle. I'm on progesterone and I don't know of any specific cycles that I've been able to suss out, but I also have lower E levels than most people on HRT. I'll be upping my estradiol dose in a few months so I'll see what happens then. Otherwise I've had depression-like, if not depression, symptoms for a long time even before HRT so it's hard to say for sure how that's changed? Looking at the other comments/replies, is your T extremely low? I know that can cause problems if it goes too low.

Didn't see the edit when I posted. But I mean depression during/in the run-up to the menstrual cycle is literally something that happens to cis women too. Doing a quick look, another possible cause may be your E level is too low for how much progesterone you have? Another article suggests extra calcium can help? Also hormonal shifts can make existing mental health conditions worse. There's a lot of possibilities.

I've heard that before, but actually, Progesterone lead to a huge boost in my mood and general wellbeing, to the point I ended up taking it every day, so I'm not helpful. (I was almost ready to write that one off as misattribution of symptoms or something until seeing this post)
