It's in the same line as people not understanding why a family of a victim might be opposed the death penalty for the murderer. Some people aren't looking to perpetuate an endless chain of violence! An eye for an eye doesn't materially change things all that much, and believing that it's the only way to solve anything is how half these messes started anyway.
I think especially the other problem is people trying to compare one situation to another like these sometimes centuries old conflicts can be swapped in and out from each other like modular parts. It's this flattening of history that is beyond stupid, like there's some magic bullet where if we figure out an end to one fight it's going to magically solve all the others.
It's incredibly fucking telling people leap to the idea that indigenous peoples america want violent Revenge from here to the ends the Earth, instead of actually asking them what they want. People whip themselves into a froth based on a projection instead of trying to actually communicate.
