I have arrived to my friend's wedding with the terrible realization that with the exception of my friend I do not think I know a single person here 😬
This has been confirmed by the groom, because he told me I am the only one of the ol' hometown gang to actually respond and show up. We've known each other for like 20 years, but I feel like of the old crew I have been in contact with people the least, so it's extra wild to me. I pulled strings and begged favors to get here in one piece, and I KNOW the rest of the gang have done better than me, so it's a bit of a shock.
Alex was ecstatic to see me, at least. I missed him too.
I have survived up to this point using a time-honored tradition: honing in on anyone else who looks remotely queer and starting conversations with them. It says something about the character of both the bride and the groom that despite being cishet at least 40% of the folks here are visibly and/or vocally LGBTQ. I may be out of my depth but I am a strong enough swimmer in a pinch and gang I have found some familiar waters.
