A scanner darkly but trans, where the protagonist isn't out at the job where they're spying on their out life, not sure if anyone around them is doing the same, and slowly dissociating more and more they have to pretend their out life is just part of their cover.
It works in inverse, too. Having to stay in the closet irl, because the out version of you is reporting to an authority on a potential cell of gender criminals. Everyone in the house is trans, &or queer, but no one talks directly because they're all spying for the same authority
Of course if I wrote either, or both, plurality would have to factor in, right? Reading A Scanner Darkly as someone who's plural added an extra layer of trippy surreality, and I can only wonder how PKD would handle it if he were alive today. Bicameral mind? Nah, 2 person system.
