spoiler opinions under the cut

  • Bro they got a GUY to say POLITICAL CONSCIOUSNESS in the STAR WARS SHOW!!!! YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • mon mothma's shitty fuckin marriage is soooooo juicy. i love her awful husband who a friend described as "mall katana husband". that is his vibe. mall katana husband.

  • after watching me and my friends were talking about how good it feels to be watching a Star Wars that was clearly created by someone who... watches things other than Star Wars? the rebel camp is so clearly inspired by like, Finnish anti-nazi groups in ww2.

  • incredible to me that this is an entire episode of Buildup and it's one of the best things i've ever seen, just like the previous four episodes. i was assuming they'd jump straight to the heist, but this was so much more juicy. just beautiful, luxuriating in the moments.

  • luxuriating in the minutiae. the preparations, the group dynamics. It's clear that tony gilroy wanted to build on what Rogue One showed the end of - that Andor is comfortable in these sort of hastily-put-together units, knows how they work, knows how to work them. I love the conversations between them, the tension. I love that Skeen casually mentions that Vel and Cinta are a couple, I love that Nemik and Skeen have a repartee, and i love that the way for Cassian to prove himself to Vel is through showing that he's noticing all of it.

  • syril karn and his nagging mother, their incredibly domestic scenes. I loved this scene - there's so much in this you never see in star wars. domesticity without ulterior motive, just great scenes, amazing dialogue, incredible characterization delivered so swiftly, effortlessly.

  • that's what really continues to blow me away about this show, more than all the aforementioned stuff - it's a written show. Characters have lines. Everyone is constantly saying dope shit. "Everyone has their own rebellion" god damn Vel. FUCK THIS IS A GOOD SHOW

"Everyone has their own rebellion" is a solid line but also I was like "how has this never been said in Star Wars before?! It's perfect for it."

And yeah, like you said, the camps being inspired by Finnish anti-nazi groups, and then the Empire setting up on Ferrix and taking over the hotel is also another great pull from nazi history. Don't let people forget these fucks are fascist!

After so many video game-ass quests in Mando, it's nice to just take some time and develop these characters. You gotta have money in the bank to cash these checks, as Gilroy said! Over the course of the episode we have Skeen establish his skepticism of Andor tangibly, then bring it to a head, resolve as they stare over the precipice of the heist, etc. It's not revolutionary scripting but it's just solid all around and rare to see in SW. So, it's nice!

Lastly, I loved seeing Skarsgard in another "mode": after projecting confidence and influence for the last 4 eps, now he's worrying like hell that he reached too far and it'll all come crashing down. Episode 6 is gonna be NUTS.

Yeah - that little throwaway hotel scene felt like it was pulled directly from a spy novel. Really lovely texture in that entire "imperial takeover of Ferrix" stuff.

It's so incredible to just be watching a show that has ACTUAL ARCS and CHARACTERS and stuff within fuckin star wars.

I'm so pumped for e6 lmao
