over the past year or so I've devoted myself to the completely frivolous task of reading every canon star wars comic (in other words, i'm not going to hold myself to reading the Legends material, for reasons that mostly amount to "time"). I've (mostly) tried to read them in in-universe chronological order for no reason other than my own satisfaction, and since i wasn't doing anything with my thoughts on them so far i figured i'll start posting some of the older ones on here.

today's first entry is the Age of Republic series from 2019. Published by Marvel (as are 99% of the current canon comics), written by Jody Houser, pencilled by Luke Ross & Cory Smith, and covers done by Paolo Rivera. In total it's nine issues, covering (in order): qui-gon, obi-wan, anakin, padme, darth maul, jango, dooku, and grievous. there's also a three-story "Age of Republic Special" which includes some guest writers & pencillers.

My thoughts are: Pretty fun! Eight one-shots that all basically amount to “the content of one mediocre episode of The Clone Wars”. Which is still pretty fun, all things considered. Would have preferred a more character-arc-focused thing but I understand why they skipped it. The Jar-Jar stuff sucked, but at least the art was good.

This is the first of three "Age of Star Wars" series - later on we'll get Age of Rebellion and then Age of Resistance. Obviously my predilections being what they are this is my favorite of the three.

read this if you're looking for more jedi content, more clone wars content, or more anakin content, as long don't mind the lack of overall story within issues and occasional goofy story premises.

in case you're curious i currently have 594 star wars canon comics tracked, and I've read 506 (in other words i've read just about 85% of the current comics canon as of 8/22/22).

I'm mostly working off of this list on wookieepedia which (as you might expect) is growing all the time, so I don't expect to ever be fully done exactly.
