There should be a 7/8 chance of being hit once, a 49/512 chance of being hit twice, a 343/16384 (I think) chance of being hit thrice, etc

At least I think the odds of n hits if any 8 adds two more rolls should be (1/8)^(n-1)*(7/8)^n*C(n), where C(n) is the nth Catalan number

i like that if you roll 8 three times you reinvent the "beam that immediately takes effect"
