Slowly losing my patience with some folks who insist that every single bit of cultural conservatism present in online spaces/pushed from on high in niche internet spaces is purely the result of capitalism and nothing but

Like, no, there's other forms of power differentials and not everything's inherently economic. Sometimes that gallery website doesn't explicitly want to sell out to some nebulous investor(s,) sometimes people are just really fucking backwards!

"You see, the push against Pokemon with questionable proportions is purely capitalistic, as-"

Sometimes you actually have to let Dr. Weir hold your eyes open to witness the ravages of hell in order to know what you're fighting when you're beating him over the head with a fire extinguisher. As much as it sucks to look at The Discourse it helps to know who you're fighting so that you don't automatically assume everyone with the same professed labels isn't some bona fide ally

"Twitter being run into the ground is a form of oligarch insurance, its investors are willingly pouring money into this failing project, it's proof that the capitalists know the power of social media" is a lot more of a comforting thought, that Your Posting Is Praxis, rather than than "This failson crybaby bought a social media network and is freely smashing it into the ground out of an egotistical meltdown and outright uninformed mismanagement while his sycophants jerk him off"

If posting was praxis on its own we'd have several hundred new worlds already.

I dunno this whole "If we got rid of the profit/economic motive thing then we'd all be on the bullet train to utopia instantly" thing really grinds my gears too but that's another rant I could go on centered around Revolution As Eschatology, repackaging largely protestant concepts but try to make them secular and politically left mixed with the idea of "Once you get there there's no fighting ever, everything's peace and love and rainbows"
