i've been having a running problem with the last several tv shows i've watched: there are like four recurring white guys and i just cannot tell them the fuck apart. sometimes i don't even realize they're separate characters until people address them by name. i'm not face blind as far as i know — it's just that the range of "20-something white man sufficiently attractive for us to put in front of a camera" has become so microscopic that they might as well be growing them in vats. you can't even vary the hair as readily as with women because that implies some kind of particular personality quirk, like a blonde man is either a himbo or Extremely Swedish. what the fuck is going on

is it just me though

the protagonist is doing a sort of love angle thing with these two guys and all i can think is "well that's convenient, they're the same guy anyway". i can only keep them straight in this scene because they're wearing different color shirts

you don’t get this issue in its source material Infernal Affairs (2002) because one of the guys there is Tony Leung

YES
i have this problem with so many movies...
other people will be recognizing all the actors and i'm just like "wait those are multiple characters??"

in reply to @lexyeevee's post:

i see what you mean, but theres a few finer details you can focus on to distinguish them. they have a different thickness in their eyebrows for instance. the guy on the right also has more defined sideburns

you've finally done it. through great effort and expertise you've achieved "Racist Against White People (All White People Look The Same)" (this is a joke. this is a funny goof)

when i watched 'the departed', i was really confused about why they didn't explain this guy doing two contradictory things all the time. like i thought it was gonna be some memento-style memory loss thing, but no, just two indistinguishable actors

I've had this problem since the 90s, tbh..... Of course it turns out I am very slightly faceblind (I often do not recognize friends in the streets, never could tell my classmates apart well in school etc) but like. It is so much worse these days?? White men on tvs look the same and it's obnoxious af. (And then there's the Chrises.... Ugh!)
