I was trying to find the soundtrack for USS Ticonderoga Life and Death on the High Seas, a DOS game from 1995 I have never played. This just so happens to be the only other music credit for Harry Holmwood, composer for SimIsle which just so happens to have a killer soundtrack:

So of course, I did what any normal person in my situation would do and tried to find a video of USS Ticonderoga Life and Death on the High Seas so I could hear the soundtrack. Unfortunately, the only videos either had a dude talking and not playing the game, or a video with no sound at all and 15 screenshots of the game in an extremely low resolution. The description on this video is fantastic, but it's not helpful.

So of course, I did what any normal person would do next in my situation, and tried to find the game on archive.org. And it's there! But also it crashes before it loads. So, also not helpful.

So of course, I did what any normal person would do after that and downloaded the game to see if I could find the audio files. And they are in there, in a raw audio format. Which is great, because Audacity can import those! But also you have to know the bitrate and some other things before it sounds right. And remember: I have never heard this music before. I have no idea what it sounds like.

Luckily, I just randomly guessed that 11025 hz seemed right, and...well, it sounds normal? It could be off, but it seems okay.

Anyway, it's not that remarkable of a soundtrack. For all that work, I got a bombastic, cheesy-sounding stereotypical naval soundtrack. Except for the track I just linked.

If you want to download it, you can do that here. It seems totally unavailable elsewhere, unless you're normal like me and like to download old DOS games and manually convert their soundtracks to WAV format.
