In grade 2 we were splitting words into syllables and someone wanted to use slashes instead of hyphens and the student teacher said no, because if you didn't write them clearly enough you might turn upset into uplset.  It lodged itself into my squishy little brain and now several decades later I catch myself thinking: I'm uplset about this.  Upple-set

In college with some downtime between classes I wound up watching a friend play Text Twist. (A game where you get six letters and have to find as many words using those letters as possible, but also must find a six letter word to proceed to the next word when time runs out.) He managed to get almost the full set but was still missing some of the larger words including the six letter word.

Looking at the letters I jokingly suggested "Try 'onion' but with a 'U') only for him to do so and it to be accepted. And we both had this moment of confusion as to why that was a real word before realizing the word wasn't un-yun it was yoon-yin. Union.

To this day whenever I get the right answer through a lucky guess it's an onion with a U moment.

(The six letter word was unions.)
