okay mashup week: megamix is a mashup tournament, which is a thing inspired by siivagunner’s king for a day tournaments. how it works is that each competitor all has their own sourcelist which determines what songs they can use in their mashups. these might be things like “songs made by or sampled by Neil Cicierega”, “songs from indie platformers”, “songs in the alt-rock, britpop, and post-britpop genres”, or “songs related to heat, fire, and summertime”. the people who run the tournament will then make mashups for all of the characters based on their sourcelists, and then people will vote on which character they want to win based on the character’s mashups and sourcelists. usually the prize for winning is more mashups (in this tournament, it’s a full week of them). MWM follows this format but it’s also double-elimination so the bracket is a bit complicated.

as for the weird lore stuff, in the original mashup week, Billie Eilish created an IKEA chair that turned sentient. the chair got mad when she joined the tournament and left it behind and the chair got so angry that it made a new dimension called the Jamension (where the loser’s bracket happened in the original). the chair also created the Omega Soundclown, the manifestation of SoundCloud’s copyright system i mentioned in the post. anyways after enough time everyone defeats the chair. in between tournaments the Omega Soundclown possesses competitor Ray William Johnson for his copyright violations and general bitchiness, turning him into Forum Freashow, and Neil Cicierega invents a machine that turns the Charlie into a human, who is now a teenage girl, who is also trans because the chair was originally referred to with masculine pronouns. also Neil gets possessed by Bill Cipher
