So, I watched the latest OSP video on Lampshading, and it hit the nail on the head about my issues with the MCU: They keep hanging a lampshade on important plot beats and emotional moments, undercutting them with cheap humour out of a crippling fear of being sincere. Combined with their insistence on nonsensical twists, it makes for movies that are very disposable and don't really give the viewer any incentive to care.

Yeeeah, that's a good video. I've been able to withstand the lampshading so far. I actually enjoyed Thor: Love and Thunder despite its constant attempts and comedic undercutting. But now that we have She-Hulk, it's getting unbearable. Practically half the runtime of the show is just staring down the camera lens being like, "This is funny. It's funny isn't it? Are you laughing? Laugh you motherfucker."
