I'm excited to test this out! From the sound of it, some of these tools might be pretty useful for my setup. That said, I ran into an issue with the program on Windows 11, in that it seems to crash when you attempt to open the menu unless you set it to run in Windows 8 compatibility mode. It seems to work fine after that, but I thought you might want to know.
edit: Okay, extra note, it still seems kind of unstable even with this change, but is still usable. I really like the level of customization available, but I'd really like to be able to be able to set values with text entries, as it's hard to move things precisely with the sliders. Otherwise, it seems really promising!
Thanks so much for the comment, i really appreciate it!
You can set values by ctrl-clicking on a text box (that's a quirk of the GUI system im using, i should put that in the help menu)
Apparently if it crashed while right-clicking to open the menu, using the Esc key avoids the crash and then it never happens again regardless of which button you use. I'm gonna look into that today.
Are there any specific instability things you noticed?
It seemed to also crash sometimes when I had to go through multiple folder levels to get to certain files. Other than that, I didn't notice any consistent source of crashing. If any other throughlines come up though, I'll be sure to let you know!
this looks awesome!! i've been looking for a piece of software to replace veadotube mini and its crappy ToS for a while, i'm definitely going to check this out
anyways now that i've tried it out, i'd like to report some bugs/request some features
Thanks for the ideas! I'll try to get around to those points.
I'm a bit confused about your penultimate point, you should be able to use hotkeys to turn off layers as it is - there's a demonstration of that in the demo video.
well either i'm doing something wrong then, or it's a bug. time to see if video embeds work here or if this'll just be a link: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/360955032750784514/1142135221442064565/2023-08-18_18-37-46.mp4
The layer you're toggling is underneath the one that's always visible, so you won't see the change. Try moving the ":(" one to the top and see if that helps
oh huh, you're right. i didn't know that channels that are set to be visible in the layer list are always on. i was trying to make one visible and the other invisible so that it would toggle between them, resulting in this behavior where one wouldn't turn off, but i didn't realize that was intentional.
if there was a way to turn that off, that'd be cool! or layer on/layer off options in the hotkeys alongside the toggle.
To explain in more detail - the hotkey will set all layers to the value of the checkboxes you set in the hotkey menu. Once they're done, they will revert to the state they were in before the hotkey was pressed. So, if you had the default layers set to
:) ☑️

And the hotkey checkboxes set to
:) 🔳
:( ☑️
They would flip when the key was pressed. So the :) layer set to visible in the main view would be turned off (at least it should - let me know if it doesn't do that on your end).
Thanks!
ah, i think i understand it a bit better now. would i be correct in saying only one hotkey can be activated at a time? i think this might be why i didn't understand how it worked, as i assumed the hotkeys would just change the layer visibility once, but they actually seem to stay in the same state until i press the hotkey again.
You're right, only one hotkey can be used at a time.
If you have the "toggle" box checked, it will revert when you press the key again. If you have the "timeout" box checked, the state will revert when that time runs out.
I love the look of it! Unfortunately my pngtuber is in animated png format, which doesnt appear to be supported yet? If its not on the list of things you're thinking of adding in, itd be awesome if you can add it in =w=
I'll look into how i can implement that kinda thing!
(For now, you can use the site ezgif.com to split the apng into a sprite sheet if you want!)
this is really cool! i'll be giving it a try later but from the looks of it it's pretty feature complete :] also tbh i'm always happy to see i'm not alone in filling the pngtuber app void ahashda
Thanks for the comment! Yeah, I had only heard of a couple (gazo and veado) but then when i uploaded to itch.io i found so many others 😅
I guess this is just the time of year that pngtuber stuff gets made? I spent much of this past week working on a svgtuber tool that's significantly stranger than it needs to be.
Thank you for making this!
I've been having problems getting it to run, despite most attempts to do so. I get the screen that's just the background, but upon pressing escape/right-clicking, it just crashes automatically.
On Windows 10, tried different compatibilities and didn't fix it. Made sure anti-virus wasn't blocking it. Are there any dependencies that are required?
Thanks for the comment, it seems a bunch of others are getting the same issue, I'm looking into the cause as best i can ^^;
I've been playing with this all morning so far and am delighted, thank you so much for making something so cool. (Note for others who have issues with it crashing, try hitting esc before you right click, or vise versa. For me it kept crashing but eventually stopped after enough combos of hitting esc or right clicking to open menu??? No idea why.)
Thanks for the info! This all helps me find the problem.... It's so hard to test this kinda thing when i only have the one computer that doesn't show the issue 😅
i haven't tested it myself yet [sorry] but watching the video it seems like... your avatar doesn't blink unless you stop talking?? I'm wondering if that's just a quirk of how it is of if it's just a coincidence.
That is currently how I've designed it, but I do intend to make another option available for a talking version of the blink sprite. I was mostly just trying to simplify the setup 😅
Ooh, this looks fantastic! I can't wait to play around with it. I'll have to see if it can run on linux through wine.
Sweet! The only things i anticipate probably don't work are the "always on top" and "transparent" options, but if they do, that's extra cool!
