One thing I always wanted, but never managed, was to book a comics professional as a guest on Dogs Must Die. I reached out to a fair number, and all but one said they wish they could but they were unfamiliar with Jojo's. The exception would have been the perfect guest. A longtime, intelligent critic, with a podcast of their own about manga, who now works as an editor for a US manga publisher, and loves 'violence comics' in general and JJBA in particular: David Brothers.
One thing I knew was David Brothers has a policy of keeping his fan stuff and professional stuff very separate. Commendable. I have nothing but respect for that. But maybe, if I was lucky, Jojo's being a Viz title wasn't close enough to count. What I didn't know at the time was that it isn't just a Viz title, it's part of his personal portfolio as editor at Viz. No chance of him saying yes. But I'm thankful he said no quickly and respectfully, and we wound up having a fantastic time with someone else. Go listen to him on Mangasplaining, it's a fantastic show (which after years hasn't covered Jojo either, for the same reason, very consistent).
So if you're a writer, artist, editor, critic, or other comics professional reading this with an interest in Steel Ball Run, hit me up whenever it gets an animated adaptation. And if you're David Brothers reading this and that policy gets some wiggle room by then, same.
