The thing about being a composer is, you start to think writing music 'should' be easy because, you're a composer right? You know how to do this. You listened to a ton of music, you learned to sing and play instruments, you went to music school, blah blah blah writing music should be easy now.

Why is it still hard?

The truth is, there is a baseline difficulty to writing music that just doesn't go away. It is always going to be at least that hard, no matter how good you are and no matter how good you become.

Think of lifting weights. You've got a 20 pound dumbbell you're trying to lift. It's true that if you've never exercised before, that 20 pounds is gonna feel harder, and yes, the stronger you get, that 20 pounds is gonna feel easier. There is relativity at play here. But guess what?

It never stops weighing 20 pounds.

No matter how strong you get, it's going to give you 20 pounds of resistance, every single time. That's just how heavy it is.

Writing music is always going to be hard. But accepting that will make things easier.
