As recently announced, this spooky season I'm creating an album of eerie ambient music specifically for tabletop GMs, that I'm calling Wyrd!

I had a successful sound selection / brainstorming session tonight. What you're hearing is by no means approaching a final track! It's a kitchen-sink 'sonic blueprint' for the kind of atmosphere I'm envisioning for the album. Even so, I'm getting excited about the direction this is heading! I can't wait to hear these sounds cohere and become more organized, as I develop this album's musical 'voice.' It's different for me... in a cool way =)))

Want to support this album as it develops? Here's how:

  • Buy me a coffee--I need music fuel! This will also help pay the artist I recently commissioned for awesome album art!
  • Visit my website and sign up for my monthly composer newsletter. Various materials about Wyrd will go out there, including my upcoming articles on the unique challenges of writing ambient music, or some of the cultural history of wyrd in mythology!
  • Follow me on Twitch, where I'll be livestreaming some of my studio sessions. Watch the music get made live, and ask questions about the process! I livestreamed this very production session earlier tonight!
  • Follow me right here on Cohost! I'll be sharing links to everything along the way as I make it.

It's a foggy autumn night, and you and your friends have settled in. Dice, pencils, and mugs of hot cider cover the table--but the ritual is incomplete.

Your host smirks, taps 'play,' and eerie melodies waft over the room, transporting you all into the realm of horror and adventure you came for. Now it is time to weave a tale.

This season, I'm bringing my musical craft and love of games together by creating an album of spooky atmospheric music specifically designed for game masters to use at the table! I'm calling it Wyrd, to draw on ideas of tragedy, destiny, and fate-weaving from Anglo-Saxon mythology.

I intend Wyrd to be affordable and completely royalty-free. You can absolutely use the music in your podcast or any other public-facing media--and I hope you do! Credit as the composer is all I need.

Sound exciting? I'm excited too! Wyrd is a big project for me, and poses some interesting problems as a composer. How do I write music that's colorful and interesting, but also doesn't take attention away from the story?

In order to find out, I need all the motivation I can get. Here's how you can support me and help make Wyrd a reality:

  • Buy me a coffee--I need music fuel! This will also help pay illustrator and concept artist Emily L'Orange for their original album art I've commissioned!
  • Follow me right here on Cohost! I'll be sharing links to everything along the way as I make it.

Wyrd should release on Bandcamp in mid-October - just in time for all our Halloween games! I hope you'll follow along with me as I work on this project over the coming weeks.
