... is this supplement: Dune Trader. In a setting full of ecology-damning sorcerer kings, leather-clad gladiator revolutionaries, and man-eating mantis rangers, some folks at TSR decided there needed to be rules to play as a traveling salesperson. For all the folks who looked at a swords-and-sandals setting where life is cheap and water precious and said "I want a class that's a combination long-haul trucker and encyclopedia seller."
I have zero idea how you would make such a character fit in with the types of adventurers and stories that the setting is built for. I'm not sure the writer does either, given Dune Trader has a whole chapter on how to build a campaign around a character whose grand adventure is buy low/sell high hard enough so that one day they can employ people to buy low/sell high for them. But I love that this exists as an oddity.
