I'm rereading Dungeon Meshi ahead of diving into the last volume, and it's interesting to see just how many little bits get called back to later on. I read the series as it got English publications, so I missed a lot of it the first time through. Been neat to notice the second time around.

Some neat ones below the break.

  • The "three meals a day" mantra used to help connect to DM Marcille gets used in volume 1 and again when the group reconnects with Shuro for the first time.
  • Namari's hair is constantly changing, but in a way that suggests she tries different styles and not in a "Ryoko Kui and assistants forgot how to draw her" way.
  • Marcille's fear of outliving everyone is shown so much earlier than I remembered, back in the chapter where she is overtaken by a nightmare.
  • In the griffon chapter, Marcille's third familiar is a sky serpent, like the massive one she later summons out of the dungeon.

Fun to see how early things were seeded or to see Kui pulling from earlier volumes as needed.

i dont know exactly how the official translations handle it, but when he's going to visit the governor the first time, mr. tansu mentions that the dungeon is overflowing with peoples desires. just as another fun example :)
