I enjoyed it, and footnoted it it to hell with stuff to plunder for tabletop games. But my two big take aways are it's a fun read1 and I'm surprised nobody's tried to turn it into a film or cartoon. It has big battle anime vibes, it has memorable characters, and several other stories converge and culminate in it like it's an event comic.

Ah well, at least there's a prog rock album about it!

  1. I read the Penguin Classics translation by Ciaran Carson.

But I who have written down this story (historia) or rather this fable, give no credence to the story, or fable. For some things in it are demonic deceptions, and others poetic figments; some are possible, and others not; while still others are for the entertainment of idiots (delectationem stultorem).
