I was just scrolling through my Facebook feed, trying to avoid the posts from groups I've never heard of that Meta wants me to see anyway, when a strangely familiar shape popped up. Is that... did someone build the Plymouth Arcology for real? Was the Plymouth Arco based on this building?
I mean it's possible; it was built in 1979. This is the FIESP Building in São Paulo, headquarters of the Federação das Indústrias do Estado de São Paulo (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo). The proportions aren't the same -- the Plymouth Arco is a cut-off pyramid on a square base, while the FIESP Building is a cut-off pyramid that's been squished and squeezed between two other towers, and seems to have different proportions in every photo angle I can find -- but it definitely nails the same dystopian vibe, especially because FIESP seems to be a powerful corporate trade association.
It usually looks prettier at night, when the indoor lights shine through the outer screen or it's lit up with the Brazilian flag or other designs... usually.
