I know I like to bitch about Discord a lot here, but this one is serious. It is virtually impossible to confidently fill an accurate report against another account on Discord. It is intentionally obfuscated in a way that I believe discourages most people from making reports, even when the reason for reporting is clear as day.
The bitchy part is I'm choosing to interpret this as malice instead of incompetence. That's a personal choice of mine. I imagine there's motivation to prevent false reports, but this does not accomplish that IMO.
Reports used to be on the standard ticket system and asked you for message IDs, an account of what happened, and you could upload images for conversation screencaps and whatever else you needed.
Worst of all, they worked. In my now-long gone past as the moderator for a 4,000-member server themed around Fallout, the month of June was typically the worst, and one year I ended up turning in over 30 bans a month (over one a day), a good percentage of which ended in reports to Discord for TOS violations for exactly what you'd expect - bigotry, death threats, anti-LGBT hatred.
Using the report system, I actually got bigots OFF the platform. I did my part, at the cost of much of my sanity and being on the receiving end of much of that hatred. I dreaded June for it, but someone had to do it.
Then they changed the way reporting works. You're supposed to report messages from Discord now, with no way to explain the context or use a form to use your words and say what happened. Which tells me they pivoted away from human moderation to a totally automated system.
It is not bitchy to assume this is malice instead of incompetence. This is cost-cutting. They don't care about The Gamers because it was never about them no matter what the marketing said or once said. Discord doesn't make money so they cut corners.
Because that's what it always is fucking all about at the end of the day.
