i think at some point i want to start something like a book club for traditional roguelikes where i wrangle a group of folks to play something for like a month or w/e, walk them through the steps of getting whatever is needed up and going, primer on how to Read what they are looking at and talk about their experiences.

old Old roguelikes having a lineage going back longer than people on this site have been alive (including me) means knowledge of mechanics and strategies and trails of development and forks are absolutely fascinating to discover. i love delving into that kind of minutia, this kind of working backwards from the piece presented and seeing how it got to it, i think there are people out there that enjoy this as well, and it doesn't need to be a lonely experience.

ive thought about something adjacent to this myself, even in just the popular ones theres a lot of mechanical variety and off the wall stuff. thinking about what i like/dont like in elona or nethack is fun but i still havent gotten an excuse to dive into the obscure stuff. so id love a roguelike book club
