What thoughts are these
That strike unbidden
Pursuing my heart unadorned
Through the hallways
And dark alleys of the soul?

For what purpose
My mind wanders inward
Towards times past
When autumn winds caught
And toyed with coattails

Promising joyous laughter
In every rustle of leaf
Dancing in the breeze that
In itself strips
Away what life remains

Cloying to that branch
Only to be born anew
Come spring's verdant breath
Hearts born aloft
In returning warmth and life.
