i have watched 100 Episodes of one piece after the netflix live action adaptation suckered me into finally giving this series a shot. thoughts so far:

  • luffy is my favorite straw hat, he perfectly fills the ash ketchum void in my heart since the pokémon anime retired that dope
  • every straw hat (that has joined so far, so zoro, nami, usopp, sanji, and chopper) is like in a close second place i love all these fuckin dopes, with the closest to last place being sanji because the Pervert Bit just happens too much man
  • look i know by the end of alabasta nico robin is gonna join the internet is not exactly secretive of who she is these days. but right now i'm excited for her being a villain and her code name of "miss all sunday" is very funny to me for some reason
  • the anime exclusive filler section with lapis was the most Interest Killing part so far, ended up liking it by the end but the pacing of "let's go to the grand line!" getting derailed so quick has me thinking future filler arcs might not be so lucky
  • i am dying for a new opening, not crazy about believe while i could literally listen to we are on loop all day. need that energy back in my life to avoid hitting that skip intro button
  • i do think the live action handled some pacing concerns i've heard about really well. that don krieg fight on baratie felt like an eternity while in comparison the live action show has him get jobbed by mihawk so the crew can pick up sanji and move on to windmill village/arlong park, that's good stuff. but it is also nice with how sometimes the show "dragging" really just lets you soak in all this amazing world building, almost every dipshit of the day has a delicately crafted backstory that's the Good Shit
  • if the anime at some point drags (even during a main arc) i may be tempted to switch over to the manga. but for now i really like listening to everyone talk, luffy's va in particular also voiced mega man volnutt and pazu in japanese so it's comforting to think of two other favorites when luffy is on the screen
  • most importantly this rules, i'm on the cruise

might try to do more updates like this as i get through more chunks. but yeah at only 9.3% of the way to catching up i see why some many people go "you gotta watch/read one piece!" so hopefully they can stop trying to convert me now! they've won!
