personally i'm constantly in despair at the state of the world. i'm trying to focus on positive things because otherwise existence itself is too painful. i care a lot about the awful things happening in the world but i don't think dwelling on them and posting about them is going to accomplish anything besides upsetting me

My online rule is only to repost what people more directly affected are saying about [insert horrible event here] and if I want to do something about it, to go outside and actually do something (which is a rule I sometimes break but I'm only human)

This website (thank god) isn't full of every single persons takes on tragedies (which are basically all the same take) so instead I just go out and join a march, help organize a donation drive, pressure politicians, talk to my union, etc. News-posting online should never be the signal that you care. Helping should be the signal you care.

No offence but if I feel I can help in a crisis I'm not gonna waste my time trying to convince you all that I'm involved, I'm just gonna go do it and if I'm not gonna go out and do something about it I feel like I should just hold my peace and shut up

(P.S. This isnt a flex to say I'm a huge community organizer or anything, just to say that if you think someone doesn't care because they're "not talking about it" maybe think about why you equate posting online as that persons sole method of discussing a crisis)

“why is nobody talking about x” is such an annoying genre of post. just make the post.

also: underrated dimension: perhaps they ARE posting about the current event, just on a different platform! I know historically I’ve preferred to interact with current events on twitter and discord as opposed to tumblr and cohost, discord especially because I can talk to locals and organize things that way. I’d love to be better at it/more involved, but I think that’ll always be an ongoing project of mine.
