I think this is firmly "not how RSS is meant to be done" but I don't really want the RSS reader to actually attempt to contain the posts by default. I feel posts are not just word+image content, and always end up clicking through to read on the site proper. This was how I used my browser-extension RSS reader back in 2007, and I'm finding myself very frustrated having to make multiple clicks every time. Stuff like webcomics are often fine in-reader but even then they often carry in-jokes.
The feature set I want is something like:
- Default (or defaultable) behaviour is to go to webpage in one click.
- A snippet of the text content is fine for context, like an email client might show some of the email body in the message list. Thumbnails are also fine.
- The ability to filter a feed - especially for aggregated or youtube feeds, I don't necessarily want everything
- Operates the same way on Desktop and mobile (log-ins, apps are fine)
- Ideally I'd like a free trial if it's a paid-for service.
Everyone's been trying different stuff lately, anyone come across this feature set?
FWIW I've been using Inoreader so far, and it kind of does most of these things but clicking through is either multiple clicks or an extremely precise intentional "open in tab" click, and the interface seems to break on every 5th interaction. The mobile app is particularly pathological.
