I love this part in the first Sherlock Holmes book where he explains his "brain attic" and that he doesn't give a shit about things like the solar system because it has no direct impact on him or his work. The context is that Watson is marveling at Holmes having no idea about a lot of basic facts of reality, like the fact that the earth and the planets revolve around the sun

I wonder if the idea of the brain attic is the inspiration for the Mind Palace from the Cumberbatch show. Probably, but they're nothing alike

One thing I also realized after starting the books is that the TV show really did Sherlock's character a disservice by making him so much of an asshole. Like he is certainly very arrogant in the books too but he has way more charm to him and is actually fairly friendly to most people when he meets them
