There is this diner in my hometown, it's open 24/7. I I think it's been there for close to 100 years. It's the archetypical diner in every way: there's only 10 seats. Their menu is mostly burgers, egg sandwiches, hot dogs and chili. They don't have or offer ketchup. The burger toppings are: mustard, pickles, relish, and cheese (last night when we went someone tried to get a burger with lettuce, tomato, and mayo and were stunned when the cook said they have none of it). Their "flagship item" is a cheese urger with relish, mustard, pickles, onions and an egg.

They don't serve alcohol. If you're a woman they put a straw in your drink, and if you're a man they don't give you one. Four of us ate there last night and our bill was like $22.

The staff tend to be rough and tumble, foul mouthed older men but funny and with a wit to them. All types of people eat there, it's a local landmark. The downtown area has become "revitalized" for better or worse with a lot of newer, cleaner trendier places. So it's cool that this diner is the exact same as it was when I first went 25 years ago, and probably very similar to how it was when it first opened.
