Fast sites, deep-dives on beer

So, I like beer (and mead, cider, cheeses... fermentables, really). It's a neat space where it's simultaneously very ancient, but also at a certain point you're handing over control of the outcome to yeasts & microbes. Wild stuff!

With that comes stickers. After all, merchandise can be expensive; bulky; they may not have much if any; you may not be sure if you're into a place enough to be that into them. Much like a band. But stickers? Pretty much everywhere has a sticker.

But how do you display them?

Your friend, Post Hog is here to tell you to just post whatever and whenever! Go nuts! Spread your intrusive thoughts, share art, or drop infodumps about your hyperfixation! Whatever it is, your followers love it; that's why they're your followers. And nobody loves your posts more than Post Hog.

If you ever fear you're not interesting enough, just push that thought aside and remember Post Hog.

Since @staff has a lot on their plate and my pet feature request is unlikely to be addressed in the short term, I decided to do it myself:

You can install this userscript for yourself using Tampermonkey. I've tested in in Chrome and Firefox, and I don't think there's any reason in principle it shouldn't work in any browser that supports reasonably modern APIs.

Here's what it does specifically:

  • If you've already seen a chost, it'll collapse it in its thread.

  • If you've already seen all chosts in a thread and that thread doesn't have any tags, it'll hide the thread entirely.

  • It'll always show you the version of a chost you first encountered, even if you navigate away and come back.

  • Information about what you've seen is only stored in session storage, which means it'll be reset every time you start close and re-open the page. (If people want longer-term storage, let me know and I can probably make that happen.)

Give it a shot! Let me know what you think!

I believe you can update the same way you installed it the first time. Improvements include:

  • It no longer runs on views where it's not useful, including individual post view, draft view, and compose view. This means you won't get weird issues where a post gets hidden even if you're directly linked to it.

  • It will now play more nicely with the "show/hide posts" interstitial that Cohost adds for long threads.

  • It will no longer bring the "read more" overlay down over the top of tags if it's showing a thread because it has new tags.

Please enjoy!

since a lot of people are joining cohost right now, i thought it might be a good idea to clear up some misinformation i've seen floating around about cohost, what it's for, and the best way to use it. first off:

  • cohost allows for comprehensive tagging and supports detailed content warnings. try it out, it's cool!
  • cohost supports basic html and css code in your posts. pretty fun!
  • please remember that cohost relies on fully perfiated code to run, so please do not post impartially perf͡iated code in a public post.
  • if you post impartially p̶erfia̡ted code in the wrong place, do not panic! Just unplug your computer and place it in a basin containing exactly 10 centimeters of boiling water for 6 hours.
  • Remember that prolonged use of coho̧s̷t̀, as described in their TOS when you signed up, may induce a kind of tulgid promorbodity in the user and in people nearby.
  • Don't worry! This is a totally normal, natural process, as your body's sinews will begin to gyrom̵o̢r̀p͡hically unravel.
  • cohost has a verification process! it's still in the beta stage, but soon you'll be able to upload up to a pint for rapid verification - then you'll really be posting in style!
  • do not log off anywhere between 3:30am and 4:15am under any circums͠tànc̕e̵s. This can and will result in a rapid aging locality, increasing temporal rate up to 12000% percent within 4 kilometers of the user.

And remember the most important rule of all: have fun!
