explode

still annoyed how I said that I'd like to have at least some indication that posting here isn't like posting into a void, and how people got weirdly aggro about it. everyone on this site (including the admins) just gets so mad if you bring up a single number lmao and it's super uncomfy, like some kind of weird anti number cult. bet they all hate 69 420. bet I get banned for that

in reply to @CyanSorcery's post:

I like the site as much as the next person but I get the distinct sense that most people bringing out the "you don't need numbers" / "numbers brainrot" / "numbers just make you feel bad" are... just talking about using the site to shoot the shit with other people and not, like, actually build a business / grow as an artist / have any tools for measuring reach / etc.

And I guess you're not supposed to be using the site for that.

But it kind of makes the site useless for a very large swath of people (artists, small business owners, streamers, YTbers, etc)

yeaa lmao like, it's cool if they want a site where you just shoot the shit, but a site like that has no use for me. to me, it's not even about numbers, I don't even care if I get a lot or a little. I just want to know my time on this site isn't wasted time that I don't have a lot of

I get the philosophy they're going for but yeah from a creator's perspective, even before you get into practical business concerns, it's nice to just get a feel for how many people are seeing your hard work. Plus, when a piece has a lot of engagement already, it encourages more engagement. When people don't know if anyone else has liked the thing they're looking at, they're less likely to comment or even like it themselves

When I used to work a job with an rl tip jar, you'd put a few bucks seed money in yourself at the start of the day, because people are more likely to tip if they see that's what other people are doing.

And if you want to go against the grain and help out a smaller piece get more attention, you've no idea whether you're sharing something everyone's already seen. I know the anti-numbers thing is part of what makes cohost unique, but it's a reasonable gripe.

i have nothing against what youre saying but like, why are we still talking about this?
how is this any better than the other people you claim are aggro? why even care? arent you doing well on other platforms?
it just doesnt seem very productive or healthy to me...

I randomly thought about it and felt like posting about it again. It just really gets me the attitude of people on this site, you know? Like I try not to let people bug me, but it was just so unexpected seeing such extreme reactions, both on my posts and on the admin's posts, and it just makes me wonder, ok well what else is everyone gonna turn up for to have extreme reactions for? Might as well just use Twitter if I want that
