I'm posting there but I'm crossposting everything that's not replies or RTs to Masto and Cohost now.
I hope not like the people I saw on Mastodon a long time ago that would use the crossposters and it'd have like @twitteraccount@twitter.com and they looked like clowns
Oh yea that's fine then, that's what I did last time I left Twitter and I was on snouts online on Mastodon. It got tiring after a while though haha
I was also on snouts when it died. That was my first masto account.
Sorry but this take feels too spicy for me. I'm still on twitter because it's the place I'm most likely to make any money, I'm not stupid or blind to everything going on, it's all awful and I'm not casting a blanket moral judgement on anyone who can't afford to move because that's where their audience is.
It's not "the past", it's something they're struggling with right now, people still there are desperately already trying to rebuild elsewhere, I'm seeing your posts in several places, I'd expect you to understand how much of a demoralizing undertaking that is.
Yea, it's difficult. I gotta post on like 10 or so websites now instead of the 5 or so that I was posting on before, and it sucks, and Postybirb only does so much. That being said, I can't just stand by and be part of it anymore
That's fair, I understand why you left, it's just that most people can't. I'd like to be able to leave too but I'm never going to get the same reach by posting to Tumblr or FA or even here on Cohost, there are no replacements. You could say it's a sunk cost type deal, and yeah it kind of is. So many people spent years building an audience just to get thrown to the curb like this.
Yea, that's understandable, and it can be hard to start over, but also, I don't see Twitter as a viable way to promote myself and I know that most of my commissions over the past couple years have come from Mastodon, with the last round being exclusively Mastodon and Discord
Ah good that you have a sizeable audience in other platforms, then ditching twitter's a good move. Sorry if I came across as too aggressive in my first reply, this is all just deeply frustrating to witness and unwillingly be a part of and I got carried away.
Nah, it's understandable. I've been getting a following in other places, but other people aren't so lucky and my following was never "big" to begin with, so I'm not losing that much by leaving Twitter. Still will suck for the game stuff though, but people got Shield Cat on their wishlists, and that's good enough
No one truly leaves Twitter anyways, the only reason i even started to join other sites is that i liked going to AlternativeTo.com waaaay before The Musk Dynasty started.
80% of my friends are there, and several communicate on their private accounts more than discord or anywhere else. i have an extension that hides the trending page and puts retweets on another page, so i've been mostly unaware until someone i follow directly mentions it. i also use an adblocker, so no contributions there. i understand your criticism, but i think it's directed too broadly.
