what a nice way to both let your character artist flex, and to instantly build a rapport both between the characters and player, and between the characters themselves in-lore 😎 it's a very...human way to do UI design lol.

i love these but can't think of any other game that did this except Dragon's Crown (and the Jet Set Radio games if we're going 3D). anyone know of other examples?

Immediately the first game that came to my mind. Love all the characters just relaxing together around the campfire, and you get so much personality from each one just from their sprites.

I played an unreal amount of this game as a kid, and one of the very rare instances where I ACTUALLY knew someone else who had the game to try out the multiplayer with.
