God I have such the relationship with this game. The story is basic as hell, the enemies lack nuance or interest, half the equipment are just glorified keys to unlock doors and have no other application. The dungeons lack decent puzzles, any challenges with the bosses are entirely the player wrestling the terrible thumbstick’s controls, the overworld severely lacks in the immersion department, money means nothing, and so much feels under-utilized and half-baked.

But GOD if this game and Majora haven’t wormed permanent spots in my brain and refuse to leave. Nothing like them, I keep going back for more like a shitty fast food restaurant.

While I definitely share the sentiment, it's a fun reminder of what we thought of as mind blowing for the time.

Reflecting back on Ocarina of Time, it's not the game itself I don't like, rather I'm bitter about it's legacy. Nintendo didn't bother changing the series up for damn near a decade because of this game.

When I replay the game, I find myself enjoying it. It reminds me of simpler times. But anytime there's a new wave of discourse about it, I have to steer clear of it.

Totally! The formula peaked with Wind Waker and it should have been left with that. While I don’t PERSONALLY enjoy the direction Breath of the Wild took (no sweeping judgments I just have a hard time getting into it for a few reasons), I still appreciate that they chose to really change it. Though, it really took ‘em way too long to do it.

Dude, I could never find a Wii, so GCN was my initial experience. I managed to get through the Wii U remaster too. There are still parts of the game I love (Snowpeak Ruins remains my favorite dungeon in the series), but the low points have me putting the game down quicker.

It has a problem with bloat and filler content. The game is trying very hard to be super big, expansive, and long and it could have been so much better if it was simplified generally. Similar to the problems Skyward had, but not to as great a degree.
