Use the feature request forum

Maybe this is a dumb pet peeve but I'm getting really annoyed seeing all these feature request posts on my timeline like staff may or may not see your random post and there's nothing for me to do with this information because I'm not staff so this is just clutter. Go post that stuff in the feature request forum. I swear I see so many people complaining about this website that's <1 year old not having a feature showing up in my feed all the time but like if it's not posted in the feature request forum then there's very little likelihood it'll actually be acted upon because there's only four people on staff and they don't read every post and since posts don't have metrics (by design) it's not at all clear how many people agree with you if you don't post it in the forum where we can upvote it to show we agree.

I don't mind the posts that are like "hey I think we should have this feature and here's a link to a thread where you can upvote if you agree with me" that's like a petition or a campaign and it'll actually get seen and be effective. I think maybe I get the kind of autism where I'm very bothered by watching people do things ineffectively like if you want to get this thing you want or need then you gotta do it differently than shouting into the void about it with an indignant attitude.

The link to the feature request forum is on every fucking page in the cohost corner.

i'll admit i'm guilty of posting a few instead of adding them to the forum. For me, the distinction has been: fleshed out idea vs when I vaguely know I'd like something to be different but don't know what yet

I see so many posts that are full User Stories or very specific requests and written with the tone of someone whose mouth is full of bike like someone has just scratched their car and then the original post isn't even tagged for searchability and it's like what did you think would come of this. I get people just feel like complaining sometimes but I guess when it's in my feed it feels like they're complaining to me and I'm like listen to put this in the actual suggestion box

It's so easy to request a feature and the devs have a proven track record of either implementing popular requests or explaining why they aren't and literally all you have to do is go to the very clearly indicated forum for this specific thing

Like I get that people are used to the experience of socmed sites being staffed by apathetic incompetents but seriously it's so easy to just learn how to use the website

Like I was saying the other day, I think part of it is people being used to Twitfacegram or whatever the fuck where there's no obvious way to submit either feature requests or bug reports and they get circular filed even if you can figure out how to send them in in the first place, and then when changes get made people already have an inbuilt expectation that the changes will suck because they are being made with the specific intent of harming user experience to increase ad conversion or whatever the fuck, so when something comes out and has a problem like tag muffling, people make snide posts about it instead of filing a report because historically in similar contexts that's all they've been able to do about it. A very understandable form of learned helplessness.

I think this is it. I see a lot of reactions to this site in general that amount to treating this site like it’s another vc funded social media corporation or something, and assuming it runs things the same way. Whether it’s the aforementioned issue about features, or spinning weird bad faith assumptions about the creators motives or finances … it’s like they don’t even know how to expect anything better anymore, or else they’re just looking for excuses to stay in the cold and unloving embrace of corporate capital.

Though the real irony was the one angrily complaining about a supposed safety issue and then declaring they were flouncing off back to twitter, you know the site run by a nazi who keeps unbanning nazis.

I've been beyond done with reminding some friends of Cohost's circumstances, including guiding them to properly using the feature request forum. Building a solid social platform takes a lot of work from an active community and any resources it can pool together.

On the other hand, we're on the brink of social media reaching the "find out" point after reaching peak Fuck Around these past 2-3 years. Something has to change, and I wish this nearsightedness and snide commentary could step aside for consideration for those who can't stay afloat anymore.

Okay. I mean, they're fairly active among us plebs, but like I said, I don't actually care enough. I already think CoHost is the best social media site. I have notes and ideas, but I'm not an expert in any fashion. I would rather make a "Some thoughts about the site's design" post for others to read over and think about. Though I've read your other comments here and see that it's not "Opinion Posting" that you're talking about. It's "Here's a full forum post, but I'm not going to post it on the forums." posts.
