we're back online after a brief outage. you may notice that some recent posts aren't showing on your timeline, but we're working on getting things fixed. don't worry, nothing has been lost!
we deployed a fix today that we hoped would give us a new tool that would help manage the memory usage of the cache that stores everyone's sessions + dashboards. in a bizarre turn, the method we thought would free up some unused space actually consumes a bunch of memory and CPU time while it's running, enough to cause the cache to completely crash and fail over to a backup from a few hours ago.
the good news is, this is all cached data, and nothing was permanently lost; the other good news is that failing over to a backup freed up a bunch of memory, and the change that didn't work the way we expected came with a bug fix (which did work the way we expected!) that should permanently fix some of the reliability issues folks have been having with getting logged out unexpectedly/losing notifications.
we're working on putting something together that allows us to reset everyone's cached data so that your timelines and notifications get rebuilt from scratch and catch back up to the present time; it should be available soon. you might get logged out once, but after that you should be good.
